Overview
As an expert in palliative care, you help terminally ill people, who are increasingly present as clients and patients in social and healthcare services as the population ages and long-term illnesses become more common. According to a report by the Ministry of Social Affairs and Health (2019:14), around 30,000 people of different ages in Finland need palliative care every year. At the center of the services and treatment needed by patients and their loved ones are competence and the human skill of encounter. STM’s report states that the level of expertise in palliative care varies by region, and more palliative care experts are needed to provide good palliative care equally to all Finns.
Palliative care specialist (30 ECTS) – specialization training is based on the needs of working life and corresponds to nationally set plans and goals for palliative care. With this specialization training, you will achieve the skills you need when working in palliative care at a special level (B/C) or basic level (A) responsibilities. You can find out more about the levels of competence in e.g. STM 2019: Recommendation on providing palliative care services and improving quality in Finland.
